365bet体育This is Tonya here to show you how to make a wooden breakfast tray. This DIY serving tray does require grown-up help, but is a great way to spend time with the kids creating something that everyone can use for a long time to come. Whether someone is in bed sick, or it’s a special birthday, Mother’s Day, or Father’s Day, this special breakfast tray can be used by the whole family.
Supplies for a DIY Wooden Breakfast Tray
- Unfinished wood panels (available at most craft stores)
- – beige (or whatever color you want)
- – white (or whatever color you want)
- Paint aerosol sealer
- Drawer pulls with screws
- Power drill
How To Make A Wooden Breakfast Tray
The first thing you need to do for this DIY serving tray (the grown-up will need to do this), is measure the distance of where the screws need to be placed for the tray handles, mark those on the wood panels, and using a power drill, drill the holes for the screws.
Next, in a well ventilated area have the kids apply four coats of Testors Craft 3oz Aerosol in whichever color they chose to the unfinished wood, both sides, allowing each coat to dry completely before applying the next one.
Once completely dry, place stencils where you would like to paint a message on the tray (this is another great part of the project kids can do). We chose to paint ‘made with love’ so that whoever receives the tray knows that the breakfast was made with love just for them.
Then carefully paint over each stencil letter using the Testors Craft Acrylic Paint in the color you chose.
365bet体育Once dry, apply a sealer over the top to protect the paint and wood from spills. Allow to dry overnight.
365bet体育Now, pull out that power drill once more, and use it to drill the screws through the hole and into the drawer handles. I found these beautiful drawer handles at my local architectural salvage shop, it’s one of my favorite places to find old bits and pieces to re-purpose.
365bet体育Then, help the kids cook dad’s favorite breakfast and place it on your new DIY serving tray with a plant, and napkin, and any condiments he may want.
365bet体育Dad is going to absolutely love this special breakfast in bed on Father’s Day. Your kids will be so excited to present him with this handmade wooden breakfast tray and serve him breakfast.
